Variety is reporting Rene has joined the cast of “Thor” to play Frigga, the mother of Marvel Entertainment’s hammer-wielding Norse hero, now stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Samuel L. Jackson, Stellan Skarsgard, Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano, Idris Elba, Joseph Gatt and Kat Dennings.

Kenneth Branagh is helming the actioner that starts lensing in January and stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Paramount will release the pic on May 20, 2011.

As the wife of Norse god Odin, to be played by Anthony Hopkins in the film, Frigga is the queen of Asgard. She’s also the mother of Thor and Loki, the pic’s primary villain, portrayed by Tom Hiddleston.

Plot Summary: Marvel Studios expands its film universe with a new type of superhero: Thor. This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

Thor starts shooting in January for a May 20, 2011 release.

The hourlong holiday special, which raises awareness about foster care adoption, will feature taped profiles of three families sharing their adoption experience. The profiles will be presented by Martin Short, Rene Russo, Patricia Heaton and Kristin Chenoweth of ABC’s “Pushing Daisies.”

The special will feature musical performances by Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Jamie Foxx and Gavin Rossdale.

Ms Russo has been the spokesperson for The Heart Touch Project for the last twelve years and is one of the founding Board members.

“I have gone to Childrens Hospital and to homes with volunteers when they have been with their clients. It is a profound and sacred experience to see the love and compassion their volunteers have. Something truly unique and amazing happens between the volunteers and their clients. We have help coming into the world but also need help going out. The Heart Touch therapists fill this gap in our current medical model.”

The fundraiser brought fourteen of southern California’s premiere artists together, each donating a portion of the proceeds of their work to The Heart Touch Project. The event took place at Verve Gallery with music provided by Caroline Waters and catering by Freeway Gourmet. The art show will continue through the end of the month.

The red tape cutting event was attended by some well known Hollywood lepers. Kirk Douglas was there, accompanied by his son Michael and his wife Catherine Zeta Jones. So too was Mel Gibson, a long term sufferer of the disease, and close friends Danny Glover, Rene Russo, Tea Leone and Martha Stewart.

“Saved By the Bell” star Dustin “Screech” Diamond read a poem he composed especially for the occasion entitled “We fall Apart, Together“.

The exclusive colony features a ballroom, cinema and a fifty foot deep feeding pit.

Travolta, who appears alongside Pfeiffer in new movie musical Hairspray, recalls the actress’ audition, admitting he was stunned by her beauty – and that’s what cost her the part.

He explains, “She was very good. She could act it, but Debra was this more kind of cowgirl type thing. Michelle and the other girls were more beauties.”
